I haven’t been sewing for my daughter as much as I used to, or as much as I’d like, but I did manage to make her a lovely first day of school dress! We completely forgot to take a first day of school photo (oops!), so we’ll have to use these spinny, blurry ones as a substitute in our scrapbook. JK – I forgot to scrapbook.
- Pattern: Charlie Dress by Mingo & Grace
- Fabric: Helios, color Indigo, by Anna Maria Horner, purchased at Clementine
I absolutely love this pattern, the fabric and the finished dress! The Charlie Dress has been on my Patterns to Sew Pinterest board for literally years, and I’m so gad that I finally got around to making it. This is a quick, easy sew, and I find it’s simple shape really flattering. I wish I could wear it!
(While the sleevelessness is wildly inappropriate for our current season, I assure you that it was perfect in late August when school started!)
I think you could easily sew this in a knit fabric, by removing the back seam allowances (eliminating the opening) and cutting out the now single back piece on the fold. I’m definitely going to try it in the spring.
